On Saturday morning, July 4th, a staple of small towns across the country will continue on Main Street as the Grand Junction Symphony presents the Fidelity Mortgage 4th of July Parade and your help is needed to make it the best parade the Valley has ever seen.
Two months ago, when the Downtown Development Authority announced they would no longer be organizing the 4th of July Parade, an appeal went out to Grand Junction businesses to see if any would be willing to step up and the Grand Junction Symphony answered the call. With the financial support of Fidelity Mortgage, the GJSO jumped feet first into a new venture: parade planning.
Now, just under two months until Independence Day, applications are being accepted to participate in the parade by designing a float. They can be picked up from the Grand Junction Symphony office at 414 Main Street or downloaded from the Grand Junction Symphony’s website: www.gjso.org/news/4thofjuly. The cost to apply is $25.
Each float will be judged on Color, Overall Beauty, Creativity and Originality. Judging takes place as floats pass the judge’s station at the corner of 4th and Main Street. Prizes will be awarded for 1st Place, 2nd Place and 3rd Place.
The parade begins at 10am on Saturday, July 4th and will follow Main Street West from 9thStreet to 3rd Street.
More details regarding the parade and other Independence Day events will be announced soon.
