Fidelity Mortgage 4th of July Parade to be the biggest Independence Day parade the Grand Valley has ever seen!

July 1, 2015

With just over 50 float entries in this year’s Fidelity Mortgage 4th of July Parade presented by the Grand Junction Symphony the stage is set for the largest Independence Day parade in Grand Junction ever!

The parade starts at 10am on Saturday, July 4th and will run West along Main Street between 9th and 3rd Streets.

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and Grand Junction Police Department Combined Honor Guard will start the parade and present the colors followed by this year’s Grand Marshal, Maestro Kirk Gustafson, the Music Director of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Gustafson has been Music Director of the GJSO for 28 years and will be retiring at the end of the upcoming concert season.

Clifton, Fruita, Glade Park and Grand Junction Fire Departments will be participating along with a helicopter flyover to signal the beginning of the parade by St. Mary’s Hospital CareFlight.

The parade lineup will also feature live music from the Grand Junction High School Marching Band, the Grande River Dixieland Band and the Centennial Band.

Other entries will include classic cars, ATV clubs, dance companies and a variety of businesses, civic, non-profit and veterans organizations.

And as a special treat for anyone who has been in Grand Junction for at least 10 years, the “Prime Cut Cow” will also be appearing in the parade. The “cow”, which used to be at the corner of 12th and Orchard at the Prime Cut Restaurant where Kannah Creek Brewing Co. is now was a fixture in Grand Junction for many years. Local artist Lyle Nichols purchased the 12′ tall fiberglass bovine at auction and has since turned it into his “Motorhome on the Range”.

All float entries will be judged on color, overall beauty, creativity, originality and patriotism by a panel of 3 judges that will be stationed in front of Wells Fargo just West of 4th Street. This year’s judges are Chris Unfug, Grand Junction Symphony Board President and local business owner; Margie Wilson, owner of Grand Valley Books on Main Street and Mark McCain, an associate with Colorado Public Radio. Monetary prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd Place.

Special thanks to Fidelity Mortgage for stepping up as title sponsor of this year’s parade. Other sponsors include Downtown Grand Junction, Jack FM, KKCO 11 News and Grand Events & Party Rentals.
