Wells Fargo’s An Evening Under The Stars continues with a new venue and new partner in the Grand Junction Rockies

August 10, 2015

A 23 year tradition continues on Sunday, August 23rd with Wells Fargo’s An Evening Under The Stars. This year’s concert will be held in Stocker Stadium at around 7pm immediately following the Grand Junction Rockies game at 4:05pm.

Last February, Grand Junction Rockies General Manager Tim Ray and Grand Junction Symphony administrative staff met to discuss some new partnership ideas and what ultimately materialized was a day of baseball and music beginning with the Grand Junction Rockies home game at 4:05pm and ending with a free concert at Stocker Stadium after the game.

Grand Junction Symphony Music Director Kirk Gustafson will be on hand to throw out the ceremonial first pitch and the national anthem will be performed by musicians from the GJSO. After the completion of the game, fans are encouraged to walk straight across to Stocker Stadium and find a place on the turf or in the stands and enjoy the music of the Grand Junction Centennial Band and the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.

Grand Junction Rockies concession stands will be open during the concert with half of all sales being donated to the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra. Guests may bring their own picnic into the stadium but are encouraged to patronize the concessions as they will be raising money specifically to benefit symphonic music in the Grand Valley.

Enstrom Candies, a supporter of Wells Fargo’s An Evening Under The Stars for the past 4 years, will also have their ice cream trailer in the stadium with a portion of their sales from that night supporting the GJSO.

Those planning to attend the concert only can enter Stocker Stadium beginning at 6:00pm and are encouraged to bring their chairs and blankets and find a great spot on the field or grab a bleacher spot. The stage will be located on the West side of the stadium facing East on the 50 yard line.

The Grand Junction Centennial Band kicks off the evening at or around 7:00pm with The Star Spangled Banner and other great Americana tunes and marches. The Centennial band is under the direction of Gary Ambrosier and Debbie Wilson.

The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra concludes the evening with other great patriotic tunes like the Armed Forces Salute, Yankee Doodle and the Semper Fi March. There will also be a performance of Casey at the Bat and a medley from Jesus Christ Superstar among others. Grand Junction Rockies mascot Corky the Coyote may even grace the stage and conduct a piece.

Season ticket holders of the Grand Junction Symphony will also have an opportunity to pick up their tickets at the concert and anyone interested in purchasing or renewing a season ticket package or buying single tickets to any concert will be able to do so that night. Season tickets are a great way to enjoy the Grand Junction Symphony all year long and first-time subscribers receive 50% off single ticket prices.

A special thanks to Wells Fargo Bank for their continued support of the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and to Enstrom Candies for their ongoing generosity. And also thanks to the Grand Junction Rockies for their support of live music in the Grand Valley.

Make plans to attend the 23rd Annual Wells Fargo’s An Evening Under The Stars on Sunday, August 23rd at 7:00pm in Stocker Stadium.
